 Reflection - John M

Before I joined the Investing A-Term, I was investing and trading for nearly a year with moderate to little experience in how the stock market works. Following this, my understanding of the stock market and the art of investing has risen significantly. Not only do I now know how to plan for my retirement at age 18, but I also know that I can trade on the stock market short-term with confidence! In particular, I was most interested in planning out my Roth Individual Retirement Account that I already opened. At first, I knew that a Roth IRA would help me if I devoted a specific amount of money per year into that account, but I didn’t exactly know what to invest in, or how to diversify. After a few days of this A-Term, I developed an official spreadsheet to plan out my retirement account! (which is available for view on the Trading and Investing padlet) I now know what specific funds to invest in, and how much I should put into these funds. 

I would like to recommend this A-Term to anyone who is interested in investing or trading in general. For example, through group discussions alone, my knowledge of the markets, trading platforms, and even buying and selling real estate has expanded. There is a place in the world of trading and investing for everyone, and I think this A-Term is a great place to start.

CMa - Reflection On A-Term

     Although I am experienced in the realm of investing, there is always more to learn and I did a lot of that over the past week. Over the course of the two weeks, on top of learning, I helped teach many of the topics and gave tutorials on how to use websites and other investing tools, which refined this information for me, and forced me to dive deeper and get a more comprehensive understanding of these subjects. As is the case with many stock traders, I have taken on stock options and although I have developed a good understanding of them, I had never looked at selling options. For nearly the entire first week, I looked into selling options and strategies that took advantage of time decay to make money. I learned about call and put spreads and took this further by learning about Iron Condors. Investing and Trading A-Term - Day 5 - John M

Day 5 On March 26th, we completed our first week of the Investing A-Term. In the morning we focused on subjects such as Asset allocation, Bonds, Passive income, and Alternative investments. Personally, I found that the most interesting part of my morning research was corporate bonds, and how they can not only have a higher percentage interest and return rate than government bonds but also how they can hold a higher risk factor. Our in-class discussion about bonds made me think about the possibility of investing in a bond-related asset in the future, and if it would help me achieve my financial goals.  Through what I have learned so far, this course has taught me how I can better my financial future by teaching me how and why I should invest. Personally, this course has given me financial clarity and furthered my confidence in the stock market’s ability to help me gain long-term, steady returns.
